The Technology Centre chooses to support a worthy cause each year and, for 2015, it’s the turn of Suffolk-based disability charity Papworth Trust.
Ian will be doing a sponsored “Jail Break” for the charity on 20th March and he’d really appreciate your support – as will the Trust.
To find out what sort of projects get the support of Papworth Trust, Jo Revitt – its Corporate Partnership Fundraiser – has told us about the charity’s work in supporting disabled and older people.
The Papworth Trust helps and supports disabled and older people across Suffolk. In Ipswich, the Trust’s centres on Foundation Street and Museum Street offer a range of learning and leisure activities for disabled people, such as cooking and gardening. These can lead to new life skills and qualifications.
The Trust runs youth clubs for young disabled people who need extra support and want to get together to enjoy activities such as drama and music. It also supports young people to help them realise their full potential and develop life skills to give them the confidence they need.
The charity’s information and advice service is free for disabled people of all ages, as well as their families and carers, living in Suffolk. Papworth Trust offers guidance on a range of disability related issues, from accessibility to education.
Help with work and apprenticeships
Papworth Trust also helps people to find and keep jobs that are right for them. The charity’s employment offices help long-term unemployed people return to work, and its social enterprise in Bury St Edmunds – Papworth Trust Workwise – provides work-based training to adults with mental ill health.
In Ipswich, the Trust’s apprenticeship scheme (run in partnership with Ipswich Borough Council) helps 18-24 year olds to get a foot on the career ladder and find apprenticeships in areas such as IT and marketing.
There are many benefits of supporting a local charity such as Papworth Trust. It’s a way of giving something back to the local community – in this case, supporting disabled people and their families – and making a real difference to people’s lives. It also helps raise your company’s profile in a positive way to current and prospective customers.
The Trust relies on the support of organisations like Framlingham Technology Centre to help it carry on providing essential services. It can also help you with ideas for fundraising events – from saving pennies in a jam jar to a quiz night or full-scale black tie ball – and provide support with press releases and merchandise.
